What to do in case of ______?
My machine "bird nests" what's wrong? etc.
Answer: For about 95% of issues dealing with NON-consistant issues such as thread breaks, not sewing properly and etc. let's take a closer look at our thread. First let us start at the top. Follow the thread path and make sure you haven't missed any hoop or hole. Next check the tension, this is the most common and misunderstood part of the entire machine. The very top tension wheel actually does more in the sense of reading whether or not the thread wheel is turning and indicates a break. So too loose will not spin the wheel and hence a false thread break, but too tight and it may fray the thread. Next is the Main top tensioner, at this point make sure the thread is passed through the take-up lever and @240 Degrees or at stop position. Pull on the thread near the Barudan name in the picture to the left. It should feel smooth with a small amount of resistance. I usually tell the operators that the bobbin and top tension are playing tug-of-war on the throat plate (where the fabric is) and should be even. If one out pulls the other then it will show through to the other side. Barudan actually has a test logo to check the tension and the results for a good tension is a Thread-Bobbin-Thread look. Where the back of a logo should show about 1/3 thread, 1/3 bobbin and 1/3 thread in that order..
